FM - Indiscrete 40th Anniversary
March 5th, 2026. Burning House - Sao Paulo, Brazil
Legendary British melodic band FM delivered an electrifying and intimate performance in São Paulo,
bringing their timeless AOR sound to the welcoming stage of Burning House.
The venue proved to be the perfect setting for the band’s melodic style. With no traditional photo
pit separating artists and fans, the audience stood just steps from the stage, creating a powerful
sense of connection. The atmosphere felt personal and immersive, exactly the kind of environment
where FM’s music thrives.
Frontman Steve Overland was in outstanding form, commanding the stage with his unmistakable
and potent voice. His performance balanced power and warmth, and his interaction with the São
Paulo crowd felt genuine throughout the night. At one point, he shared how good it was to be back
in the city, a sentiment that was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience.
Musically, the band delivered the level of musicianship that has defined FM for decades. Guitarist
Jim Kirkpatrick brought soaring melodic solos, while bassist Merv Goldsworthy kept the rhythm
grounded and powerful. Keyboardist Jem Davis added rich textures essential to the band’s signature
AOR sound, and drummer Pete Jupp drove the performance with precision and energy.
The setlist travelled through the band’s rich catalogue, bringing waves of nostalgia as fans celebrated
songs that have defined FM for decades, the crowd’s reaction told the real story. Fans embraced
every moment, singing along and celebrating the band’s enduring catalogue of melodic rock
anthems.
Beyond the music itself, the welcoming environment at Burning House added to the experience. The
venue staff were friendly and supportive, helping create a smooth and enjoyable evening for
everyone in attendance.
For me personally, the night carried an even deeper meaning. Just days after my birthday on March
3, being able to photograph FM in São Paulo felt like the perfect gift. Traveling from Seattle to Brazil
and having the opportunity to capture one of the bands I’ve admired for many years was truly
special. My sincere thanks to Matt and the FM team for their kindness and for granting me the
opportunity to photograph the show.
I would also like to thank the Hard 'n' Heavy Party team for the opportunity and for creating such a
welcoming environment. It was a pleasure to meet and share the night with talented photographers
such as Anderson H., as well as to experience the hospitality of the amazing team at Burning House.
FM’s return to São Paulo proved that the spirit of AOR is alive and well, driven by great musicianship,
timeless songs, and the powerful connection between band and audience.
